Urban Murphy bed – A window seat bed is an option if you have limited space in your home. For example, your home may not have a dedicated room or because you do not usually enjoy turning your guest room into a home office. A window seat bed uses a regular window seat, turning it the space for storage for a bed. When you need the bed, you simply pull out the box cases. You need 3 1-by-39-by-25 inch wood panels, 4 hinges, ½-inch wood screws, four folding legs, and Twin futon mattress.
Instructions to build an urban murphy bed in a window seat: 1) Arrange two of your wooden slabs on a flat surface. Place a hinge on top of the boards so that the hinge evenly sits on both boards. Put the second hinge on the boards, spacing each evenly over the top. Tighten ½ inch wood screws through the holes in the hinges and into the wood.
2) Turn wood slabs and place your last wooden slab in the bottom. Arrange two hinges at the top of the last board and the board above. Zinc ½ inch wood screws through each hinge. You should have a piece measuring 39 inches wide and 75 inches tall and folded together. 3) Attach four folding legs to wooden boards. Place one leg in each corner of the boards. The legs develop, giving the bed its height, but folds flat at the storage bed inside the window. The legs have flat metal plates that are flat on the wood. Sink wood screws through the plates and into the wood.
4) Place a twin futon mattress on top of wood slabs, making your twin urban Murphy bed. Fold wood boards around the mattress. A futon mattress is thinner and easier than a traditional mattress, which makes it fold almost flat when pressed between the boards. 5) Enter the mattress form that you created in the last step inside the window. Lift off the top of the window seat and place your mattress inside. When you need to use the bed, lift the mattress out and fold your legs. When you need to store the bed, just fold your legs below and put back in the seat.
