Twin Platform Bed With Trundle Style Frames

Twin Platform Bed With Trundle – The frame of a trundle bed is similar to a platform bed since it is not necessary to accommodate a mattress and may not have any legs or supports other than those in the corners of the frame. A solid wood sheet can form the platform. The head may be a separate element or an extension of the two legs at one end of the frame. The legs and the remaining sides can take any shape, although the frame should be high enough to accommodate a drawer below it, usually more than 1 foot (0.30 cm) in height.

A twin platform bed with trundle can be characterized by either a large, single drawer containing a double mattress or a series of drawers that open from one side of the bed. The rails for the drawers must be connected to the legs of the bed frame to close the point where they are on the floor. The wheels provide additional support for the drawers of the trundle bed, allowing them to slide along the rails, but also roll on the floor below and next to the bed. Most of the trundle beds are made of wood, which offers a greater number of options for a homemade version. A sheet of plywood is appropriate for the frame platform and any common wood furniture, such as oak, pine, and cherry, can form the legs, back, and sides of the bed.

The drawer can use another sheet of plywood, slightly smaller that serves as the platform of the frame and the sides made of hardwood or plywood with a plated finish. The screws and wooden nails can support the weight that a trundle bed with drawers will experience during its use. This makes assembly relatively easy once all the wood is cut to size. If you have more advanced woodworking skills you can use wooden joints to hold the twin platform bed with trundle together or achieve a more traditional look. Storage drawers can be constructed by nailing or screwing plywood boards together to form basic wooden boxes.
